Renewables are key
Solar Citizens supports the findings of the latest polling research by the Clean Energy Council – showing that 80 per cent of respondents support the need for more rooftop solar, while only a third support more coal or introducing nuclear energy.
Most importantly most Australians see renewables as a key pathway to reducing energy costs, with 75 per cent of respondents viewing the cost of living as a key election priority.
Looking to government to make renewable energy available
Solar Citizens CEO Heidi Lee Douglas said that Solar Citizens supports the Clean Energy Council efforts to clarify the facts on how clean energy works for Australia and to combat energy disinformation.
“What we hear constantly from our 200,000 strong supporter base, representing 10 million Australians living in homes with rooftop solar, is that we’re looking to our government and political parties to make clean, cheap renewable energy and storage available to everyone.”

We need action on rooftop solar
“Instead of muddying the waters with unsupportable claims about nuclear energy – which essentially delays closing coal fired power stations – we need to see action on getting access to rooftop solar to 60 per cent of Australians who currently miss out – renters, people in apartments and in social housing.
“We need to see a Federal Home Battery Rebate so more people can soak up the abundant energy they produce in the daytime.“We need a target of a million home batteries* to firm the grid and bring down energy prices for everyone.”
*The Australian Energy Market Operator’s modelling in the Integrated Systems Plan to achieve the lowest cost energy transition requires 8GW of household batteries by 2030. This is equivalent to one million behind-the-meter batteries.
